Trail Details
Rio On Pools is reportedly a popular hang out for locals and tourists alike on sunny warm days. A place to luxuriate and relax in azul pools while soaking in the beauty of the forest. As this was not our luck, we nearly got the place to ourselves. Only a few others seemed interested in flooded out pools flowing with murky waters from recent and current rain storms.

Once parked along the roadside it’s a short hike to the pools. There’s a pavilion area (closed for the day or season when we were there) that offered bathrooms and changing rooms. From the pavilion walk down to the pools. There are a multitude of trails winding toward the water, with one main trail that’s fairly obvious. The trail itself was not in the best shape, to be fair most everything in the area was either flooding or turned into a swampy marsh from all the rain. I’m not joking on the quantity of rain encountered on this trip. There were a few places where hopping over a mini stream was required and there were some uneven rocks on the path.

From the pools you may either walk or drive up to the viewing platform across from Rio On Pools. It does offer a lovely view, granted instead of pools we saw a series of cloudy waterfalls due to so much rain. Still quite lovely even if we needed rain jackets instead of swim suits. Oh well, maybe next time!
