Trail Details

Big Rock Falls can be accessed from a small dirt parking area or for a longer hike, you may start at the nearby Blancaneaux Resort. I believe permission is required to hike from the resort as it’s private property. We chose the shorter path. It was dumping rain off and on and we just did not want the hassle.

Trail head

From the parking lot, the trail heads thru the forest to a series of stairways. In the near constant rain these were quite slick. The hand rails were a tad slimy.

Once to the creek floor, there’s a path thru the rocks heading to the falls. Had the day been warm and sunny we may have gone for a dip. There are spots along the cliff walls to jump into the pool or you could wade in. As it was, the rain was relentless. All the extra water rushing down the mountains made for an unappealing brown tinted river. No thanks, I’ll pass.

The waterfall was pretty enough. Doug enjoyed it, he loves waterfalls. I’m still a hard sell on waterfalls. We only encountered one other group at the falls and a few random horses on our way back out.
